Nova (2 yrs & 2 months) has gotten really good at her chunky Melissa & Doug wooden bead set over the last several months. I thought it would be fun for us to make matching jewelry together and give her the new challenge of using smaller beads.
We made a special trip to the craft store together and I let her help pick out the beads. I also purchased some elastic string and embroidery thread. I put a bit of tape around the end of the thread to make it stiff + keep it from fraying + make it easier for her to use.
She really enjoys this activity, but she's all about the process. When she gets the necklace just the way she wants it, she dumps the beads off and starts over. Heehee! I have asked her several times if she wants me to tie it so that she can wear it. "No."
I made her a coordinating bracelet and necklace. She was so excited, you would think I gave her real diamonds. "Thanks Mommy! Thanks Mommy!" It also earned me a bunch of BIG hugs and smooches! I hope she keeps her appreciation for the little things as she gets older.
